Our Story

 

Stuart Lowen Quality Butcher & Farm Shop has been part of Minehead since 2005, offering quality meat, local produce and everyday essentials from its shop on Hawksworth Road.

Founded by Stuart and Nicky Lowen, the shop was built on a simple idea: to sell good-quality food from trusted local farmers, producers and suppliers.

​

Over the years, Stuart Lowen has become known for its traditional butcher’s counter, knowledgeable staff, friendly service and strong links with the local food community. Stuart and Nicky also introduced more eco-friendly ways to shop, helping customers reduce packaging through practical refill options.

​

In June 2026, Exmoor resident Alex Broomsgrove took over the business. The same trusted butchers and experienced farm shop team remain in place, giving customers continuity while Alex builds on Stuart and Nicky’s values with fresh energy.

​

At the heart of the shop is a belief that good food matters. That means quality meat, local produce and carefully chosen ingredients that have been grown, reared, baked or made with care.

Supporting local producers remains central to the shop’s future. From farmers and growers to bakers, makers and suppliers, Stuart Lowen Quality Butcher & Farm Shop will continue to champion the people behind the food on the shelves and at the butcher’s counter.

The shop will also continue to make eco-friendly shopping simple by offering refillable options, including self-serve milk and organic dry goods.

 

Alex believes food has a direct impact on how people live and feel. His aim is to offer food customers can trust, sourced with care from Exmoor, Somerset and the surrounding area.

Today, Stuart Lowen Quality Butcher & Farm Shop continues to serve Minehead and the Exmoor community with quality butchery, local produce, refill shopping and carefully sourced food.
